More than 2,400 women took part in the Cook Medical Limerick Women’s Mini Marathon today (Sunday) to benefit a variety of charities including Sophie’s Journey, Crumlin Children’s Hospital through fundraising by race participants.
The 5km and 10km courses took runners, joggers and walkers of all ages and abilities through the grounds of the University of Limerick and on to the finishing line in Castletroy.
Cork woman Michelle Finn crossed the finish line in first place in 35:44, followed by Hilkka Kontro, in second with a time of 39:12, and Ann MacPhail, in third place with a time of 40:27.
Niamh Barton, a Limerick native and student of Graphic Design Communication at the Limerick School of Art and Design, LIT designed the winning medal, which incorporated the Cook Medical ethos of teamwork, together, and Limerick.
