Our Guidelines

There are always going to be patients to treat and people who want to get well. It is the job of healthcare to make that happen. That is why Cook Medical provides financial support to organisations that are looking for ways to better serve patients and healthcare providers. All requests must meet your own institutional, local, national, and regional requirements to be considered by Cook Medical.

We consider requests for funding and products to do the following things:

  • Promote patient and public education and disease awareness
  • Support charitable efforts, including those providing medical care to underserved populations
  • Advance medical education through
    • Fellowship programs
    • Third-party educational conferences
  • Encourage scientific research
  • Promote the advancement of medical technology in
    • Aortic Intervention
    • Critical Care
    • Endoscopy
    • Interventional Radiology
    • Lead Management
    • Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery
    • Peripheral Intervention
    • Reproductive Health
    • Surgery
    • Urology

Disclosure: It is Cook Medical’s policy to comply with applicable disclosure requirements (e.g., the French Sunshine Act).

Bribery: It is a long-standing policy of Cook Medical and a part of our company culture that we do not buy business or tolerate bribery.

Cook Medical does not provide ‘unrestricted’ grants. The purpose for the grant must be stated in the grant application and program detail. That designated purpose is the only one for which the grant funds may be used. Cook Medical will not have control over the content of programs.

Cook Medical funding provided to healthcare professionals is subject to particular requirements according to the type of arrangement.

Charitable Donations:

Grants for Charitable Programs

These donations are for programs that benefit the public and are provided by or through a nonprofit organisation. These types of programs can include patient education, disease awareness, or the provision of medical care for underserved populations. These donations are also available for events where proceeds are intended for charitable purposes. Donations cannot be used for healthcare education or for individual patients.

Product Donations for Charitable Use

These donations are for programs that benefit the public and are provided by or through a nonprofit organisation. These types of programs can include patient education, disease awareness, or the provision of medical care for underserved populations. These donations are also available for events where proceeds are intended for charitable purposes. Donations cannot be used for general, non-product healthcare education, or for individual patients.

Requests for product that will be used at third-party educational conferences or programs for healthcare professionals should be made on the Cook Product Donations for Third-Party Educational Use application.

Educational Grants:

Third-Party Educational Conferences

These grants are for use by educational institutions, professional societies, or other third-parties to support educational conferences, seminars, or professional society meetings that they are organising. Cook Medical is not permitted to sponsor educational conferences or programs that are organised by healthcare institutions that restrict attendance to their own healthcare professionals who are not in training. (These sponsorships cannot be used for exhibit fees alone or other fee-for-service arrangements.)

  • The meeting must be bona fide and educational, scientific, or policymaking, or be approved by Eucomed for European meetings
  • The meeting must promote scientific knowledge, medical advancement, and the delivery of effective healthcare
  • The meeting must be independent of Cook Medical—Cook Medical cannot select speakers or control content, methods, or materials
  • The meeting must follow the criteria established by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (www.eaccme.eu) to avoid losing continuing medical education accreditation

Requests by third-party conferences or educational institutions for funding for scholarships to be awarded to HCPs-in-training should be made on the ‘Conference Grants for HCPs-in-training’ application.

Requests for product that will be used in third-party educational conferences or programs for healthcare professionals should be made on the ‘Cook Medical Product Donations for Educational Use’ application.

Product Donations for Third-Party Educational Use

These grants are for products that will be used in third-party educational conferences or programs for healthcare professionals. Cook Medical cannot control the program content.

Conference Grants for HCPs-in-Training

These grants are only awarded to educational institutions or professional societies that wish to support the educational advancement of healthcare professionals-in-training (HCPs-in-training), defined as medical students, interns, residents, and fellows. The requesting institution or society is responsible for selecting the beneficiaries of the grant. Some governments and institutions have their own requirements for making these selections.

Keep the following things about educational grants in mind:

  • Educational grants are provided to training institutions or conference sponsors to support healthcare professionals who are in training and who have been selected by the training institution or conference.
  • Educational grants will be given only for the reimbursement of legitimate expenses for bona fide educational activities.
  • Grants must be consistent with conference standards.

Note: Cook Medical cannot review applications that are submitted by individual HCPs-in-training or provide funding for education directly to HCPs-in-training. Institutions must apply for educational grant funding.

Grants for Fellowships or Residency Programs

These grants are for use by structured fellowship programs within a healthcare institution for HCPs-in-training.

Research Grants

Product Donations or Funding for Research

Cook Medical is not currently accepting research grant applications.

Outside our scope of review

Items that generally fall outside the scope of the Cook Medical Charitable Donations, Grants, and Sponsorships Program:

  • Unrestricted grants to individuals or group practices – all grants are restricted to specific, documented requests as they have been approved
  • Disaster relief (e.g., earthquakes, floods, tsunamis, fires, mudslides)
  • Personal travel
  • Mass-media productions that are not associated with educational content (for example, CD-ROMs, webcasts, journal supplements, etc.)
  • Personal development (for example, individual leadership training)
  • Travel fellowships for healthcare professionals (HCPs) where local law and industry best practices allow such fellowships
  • Capital campaigns or building funds
  • Website or social media development that is not associated with an accredited educational program
  • Service contracts
  • Religious programs
  • Entertainment (for example, sporting events, concerts, retirement dinners, etc.)
  • General capital or operating expenses (for example, office equipment or staff, computer hardware or software, medical library resources, etc.)
  • Textbooks and journal subscriptions
